Final Review

The final exam will be held in the normal classroom at normal hours (Tuesday Dec 8th - 7pm). The format will be the same as the midterm: 50 multiple choice answers and 3 or 4 short answer questions. You will only need to bring a pen or pencil - paper will be provided. I will have office hours (in the student tutoring center 1st floor in the library) on Monday Dec 7th 430-530pm and Tuesday 530-630pm (please note change from what i wrote on the board in class).

As far as the material is concerned...you will find a list of all the summaries for each topic that will be covered on the final exam, as well as a condensed version of the written summaries. All the material ocvered in these notes is fair game for the final, but you will NOT be responsible for any information NOT covered in these notes.

Week 16

- Homework #2 is due this week! We discussed soundings in class...but here a few tips: The plots are like connecting the dots. Do note that not every "layer" is 1 km. For stability in each layer, use the Lapse Rate rules discussed in class and in the notes (ie: Abs Unstable when ELR>10) to fill in those blanks. Looking at each layer will give you an idea of the overall condition...if the atmosphere is generally stable or unstable.

- I will have office hours on Tue before class in the Student Tutoring Center (1st floor of library) from 530-630pm. I will also have similar office hours next week before the final exam.
- We will have a review for the Final Exam in class this week.
- See previous post for summary of all material covered for the final. Please review a little so that you can ask any questions you may have during the review.

I will not be able to produce any prenotes this week. Unfortunately i will be working on the slides on tuesday before class. Sorry.

I will not have any set office hours this week. If you need to meet, email me and we can set up a time.

The due date for Homework #2 is coming up. If you want it returned back graded so that you can study it, turn it in by next week (Nov 24). You can still turn it in the following week for full credit, but you will not receive it back.

Week 13

Sorry for the tardiness on this post, it was a busy week.

We have a Quiz in class this week (Tue Nov 10). This is worth 10% of your grade, so don't miss it...especially if you already missed or performed poorly on any of the previous assignments. This quiz will cover material from:
Week 7 - Stability
Week 10 - Precipitation
Week 11 - Fronts and Hurricanes (Only one question at most on hurricanes)
...That's it!

The slides from the presentation shown at the National Weather Service field trip are available below. There is no write up with these slides, but i did provide a full color version as well. This is the material covered on the field trip that you will be responsible for on the final.

Weeks 11&12

Field trip is this week (Tue Nov 3). We will meet at the National Weather Service office at 7pm. The office is located at 520 North Elevar St, Oxnard, Ca 93030. Click here for a map...note that Google plots the office a little off...it is actually all the way at the end of Elevar St...on the right.

Please note that the field trip is NOT optional, and you will be responsible for the material covered. Please bring a paper pad or something to write on, as you will be standing up some of the time. Only minimal lecture notes and slides will be provided afterward. No PreNotes will be made for this.

New Syllabus Version download by Clicking Here (pdf)
Please note the following changes:
- New grading policy (dropping lowest grade of quiz/homework. Everyone also gets 10% freebie points to make total possible points an even 1000 pts)
- Due to the lack of interest, i have changed my office hours to "by appointment." If you wish to meet, let me know along with some date/times and I would be more than happy to meet. I will have a set office hour for the last two weeks however, in preparation for the final exam.

Homework #2 - download by Clicking Here (pdf) FIXED
- Note that it is due a week earlier (Nov 24) than on the first version of syllabus. This will give me a chance to grade and return the HW at the Final review session...so you can study it for the final. Since this is a last minute change, i will accept the HW for full credit on the original due date, but you will not be able to see it graded before the final exam.
